CPL. PAUL DENIS BERTRAND Of Warman, SK and formerly of Makwa, SK. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Corporal Paul Denis Bertrand on May 13, 2001 at the City Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Paul was born on May 14, 1960 in Loon Lake, SK to Frank and Germaine Bertrand. Paul attended elementary school in Lloydminster and graduated from high school in Makwa. He then completed four years of Diesel Mechanics and worked in Lloydminster and for Novlan Brothers in Paradise Hill. In February 1989 Paul was accepted into the R.C.M.P. He graduated on October 23, 1989. Paul and his family made a home in five different detachments ranging from Northern and Southern Manitoba and Northern Saskatchewan. They met and made many lasting friendships in these communities. Pauls first passion was being a police officer, his second passion was fishing in his boat in the middle of a quiet lake. He excelled at gardening and cooking and was exceptionally talented at making his ever popular cinnamon buns that many R.C.M.P. detachments enjoyed. Paul always put his family first above all things. On September 12, 2000 Paul was diagnosed with a brain tumour. For nine months he battled the highs and lows of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Through all this Paul always kept a smile on his face and made the best of every day. Support from family and friends helped him and his family through this tough time. Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife Donna; three daughters, Natasha (Greg) and their son, Brandon of Winnipeg, Nichole and Danielle of Warman; parents, Frank and Germaine Bertrand of Makwa; three brothers, Yvon (Lynda), Rene (Cecile) of Makwa and Yves (Bev) of Saskatoon; maternal grandmother Lilianne Colbert of Meadow Lake; paternal grandmother Emilia Bertrand of Saskatoon; mother and father-in-law, Inez and Milo Sproull of Lloydminster; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Morrison and Sandra (Chad) of Lloydminster; two brothers-in-law, Doug (Diane) of Lloydminster and Doug Morrison of Saskatoon and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A prayer service was held on Wednesday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. from St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Makwa and the funeral service was held on Thursday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. from the Makwa Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Neurosurgery Research at Royal University Hospital, 103 Hospital Dr., Saskatoon, SK, S7N 0W8 or to Ducks Unlimited Canada, 603 - 45th Street West, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 5W5. MARSHALLS FUNERAL HOME LTD. of St. Walburg, SK were in care of the arrangements.
