MARGARET SHEA Margaret, surrounded by her four daughters, died peacefully May 17, 2001, just three days before her 92nd birthday. She is survived by her daughters and their families: Lana Jacob and grandsons, Jeff and Michael, Anne and Roman Nemecek and grandson Gary, Sharon and John Bond and grandson Andrew, and Charleen and Ross Buchanan, grandson Kyle and granddaughter Colleen (Leduc). Her sister Mrs. Tena Graham from Cape Breton Island, and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada also survive Margaret. Margarets husband Len predeceased her in 1982. Mom was born in Inverness, Cape Breton Island, NS, to Alex MacInnis and Mary MacEachern on May 20, 1909. She was the second eldest of six children. Her father, a coal miner, died when she was 14 years old, and her mother struggled to ensure her family was well cared for. Mom was always interested in education, and after receiving her Grade 11 went on to get her teaching certificate. She taught for several years in one-room schools around the Inverness area. Along with her love of education, Mom loved working with her hands doing her crafts. It was this interest that took her to Ottawa in the mid 1930s where she met Dad. She and Dad were married in his hometown of Campbells Bay, PQ, in November 1943. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Iroquois Falls, ON where Dad worked with Abitibi Paper Company. It was here where their four daughters were born. In 1950 they were transferred to Pine Falls, MB where they lived until Dad retired in 1972. Mom was very active in 4-H and the Catholic Womens League over these years, along with being very busy as a mother raising four children. When Dad retired, they moved to Winnipeg where Mom fulfilled her dreams of pursuing her interests and further educating herself. She spent many years taking courses at the University of Winnipeg, classes at the Art Gallery, golfing, and enjoying her grandchildren. The highlight of every year were her trips back to her "roots" - she loved her Cape Breton Island and visiting with her family there. In her later years, Mom enjoyed reading and the time she spent with her daughters. Her last two years at Misericordia Hospital and Golden Links Lodge were happy ones for her due largely to the kind and nurturing staff involved. Although Mom was a very quiet woman, she imparted to her children a true sense of family. She always found solace in her spirituality and this brought her great comfort. We love you Mom and we will miss you but we know you are at peace. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Bernadettes Roman Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood, with Fr. Fred Olds officiating. Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens and a gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Lawn Reception Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be forwarded to Golden Links Lodge, 1 North, 2280 St. Marys Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2N 3Z6. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
