JAMES DOUGLAS (DOUG) SELLEN Peacefully on Friday, May 18, 2001, at the age of 83 years, Doug passed away with his loving family by his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley; daughters Gloria (Einar) and Sandra; son Larry (Maureen) grand-children, Shane (Colleen), Heather, Breanne and Reid, as well as his great-grandchildren Ashley and Kyra. Doug will also be fondly remembered by his brothers, Richard (Mary), John (Velma), Andrew (Olive), Bob (Marjoe), George (Donna) sisters, Esther, Evelyn (John), Frances, Helen (Robert) brother-in-law Kelvin Main, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and all the children that knew him and loved him as Grandpa. He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Elizabeth; brother Raymond and his wife Mary; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Merle Main; brothers and sisters-in-law Keith and Irene, Dorothy, Merlin, Margaret and Lynn. In early years he worked at the Cordite plant and Westons Bakery. Most of his career was spent will Sellen Brothers in the construction business with his two brothers Raymond and Richard as partners. Doug was a kind and generous man. He would always lend a helping hand or the last dollar in his pocket. His children will always remember him as a loving, strong, encouraging, protective and compassionate father. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy. We, the family wish to thank the Medical Staff of GA-4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion with special thanks to nurse Norma. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the Oak Bank Baptist Church, 4655 Springfield Rd., Oak Bank with Pastor Jim Zurbriggen officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bill and Cindy Reynolds, Don and Claudia Sellen, Beth McLeod and Gordon Draper. Honorary pallbearers will be Norv and Arlene Christopherson, Lloyd and Joyce Wilde, Charlie and Elsie Whitehead, Wes and Janet Smythe, Ernie and Diana Reimer, Eric and Helen Lange, Allen and Eleanor Edmonds and Lorne Reid. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Manitoba Cancer Society, Manitoba Lung Association or to a charity of ones choice.
