Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER TOEWS Peacefully, on Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Bethania Personal Care Home, Dad passed away with his family and loving wife by his side. Dad will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 52 years, Nettie; his two sons, Raymond and wife Terry, Larry and wife Holly; two daughters, Lorna Friesen and husband John, Valerie Stuart and husband Tim; six grandchildren, Dayna Benjamin (Will), Corey Toews, Kristin and Kurtis Friesen, Jaime and Stephen Toews. He will also be missed by his two brothers, Frank (Mary) Toews, Henry (Eva) Toews; and sister Helen Toews, all of Abbotsford, BC; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and many good friends. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Maria Toews; four sisters, Anna Toews, Kay Ginter (Con), Elsie Friesen (Art) and Mary Rempel (Peter). Dad was born on September 6, 1920 and grew up in the Rheinfeld area. On March 19, 1949 he married Nettie Sawatzky in Abbotsford, BC. They settled and farmed in Brunkild, MB and raised four children. They retired from farming and moved to Winnipeg in 1973 and Dad continued to work at the Manitoba Sugar Company. After retiring from the sugar plant he enjoyed traveling with Mom and pursued his many hobbies and talents. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He took pride in watching his family grow. Each of his grandchildren was special to him in their own unique way and each one will carry a part of Grandpa with them for the rest of their lives. We will all cherish the special memory of family gatherings with 17 people around the table with Dad presiding and saying grace. Every one of his children will have a lasting legacy of Dad through his handcrafted grandfather clocks, paintings and woodworking. Dads strength of character and patience were an inspiration to all his family and friends. He was such a happy person with a quiet yet inquisitive nature. While well miss you always, Dad, there will always be a part of you in all of us. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home with reception following the service. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Bethania Personal Care Home for the special care, compassion and support given to our parents during the last two and a half years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society. "When life closes a door, memories open a window." Be at peace Dad, we love you.
