MARIE IRENE TURKO (nee MAGURA) Change in Service Time Peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2001 at Golden Door Geriatric Centre, Marie Turko entered into eternal rest. Marie was born on September 7, 1913 at Cooks Creek, MB. She was the youngest daughter of Mary and John Magura. At the age of 15 years, Marie arrived in Winnipeg honing culinary skills that would serve a lifetime. On July 15, 1939 she married Michael J. Turko of Sapton, MB and in 1942 they moved to Winnipeg. Family was the centre of Maries life. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, fishing with "Mickey", and entertaining family and friends. Loving and generous, no one left the Turko home without food or drink. She fondly reflected on their travels to various parts of Canada and the U.S.A., enjoying visits with family. A remarkable woman, her class and common sense afforded her many friends. Marie persevered when faced with medical adversities and demonstrated her tenacity and inner strength in seeking quality to her life. She fought so hard to stay with us, and in her final days remarked that she had lived a full life and was amazed at her own longevity. She was elated to have participated in the Magura Family Reunion (1996). Marie is survived by her son David (Joan), grandchildren Jason and Kristin Turko; daughter Yvonne Rindall (Barry), grandchildren Anika (Graham) MacLachlan and Linnea Rindall; sisters-in-law, Antonie Magura, Connie Magura and Zen Chorney. She was predeceased by her husband Michael J. Turko; her brothers, Stephen, Mike, Walter, and Peter Magura; sisters, Anne Ruchkall and Louise Magura. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Golden Door Geriatric Centre and its volunteers for their superb care and compassion shown Marie during her four year stay. Sincere gratitude to the competent Hemodialysis Unit at St. Boniface Hospital, whose expertise extended Maries life. Sincere appreciation to the employees of Certified Stretcher Service who became part of Maries extended family. We thank those who kept in touch with Marie and made her life brighter because they were there. She will be truly missed and lovingly remembered. A funeral service to celebrate Marie Turkos life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., Winnipeg at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, with interment to follow. If desired, appreciated donations can be made to the Hemodialysis Unit at St. Boniface Hospital or to a charity of ones choice.
