DR. LORNE D. HOAG Suddenly, on May 19, 2001, Dr. Lorne D. Hoag passed away at the age of 57. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth (Benson) in 1983 and Gordon Leonard Hoag in 1990. Lorne is survived by his loving wife Jane (Adams) and his children, David, Stephen, and Jana; his brother Dr. Gordon Hoag and wife Beverly; Shane and Heidi of Victoria, BC. Also surviving are Harold and Lucy Adams of Saskatoon; Sandra and Alan Lees, Kevin, Darren, and Trevor of Vernon, BC, Don and Kathryn Adams and Sophie of Saskatoon; a great aunt Winona Martin of Brussels, ON; and aunt Ruth Benson of Outlook, SK. Dr. Lorne Hoag was a loving father and was professionally accomplished and recognized for his quiet wit and aptitude for life. He was born on March 19, 1944, in Vancouver, but spent his childhood years in Saskatchewan. He attended university, obtaining a B.Sc. (Geology) in 1965 at Brandon College, a B.Ed. (1968), M.Ed. (1971), M.Ed. (1975) at the University of Manitoba, and an Ed.D. (1978) at the University of Western Colorado. Lorne served the educational community for 35 years, 28 years through the St. James School Division. He was keenly supportive of the continuing development of his students, and was a founding member of the Manitoba Career Symposium. He was actively engaged in many professional activities; as a member of the executive of the Manitoba Counsellors Association (MSCA) he held the office of president and was current Chair of the Awards Committee. He served as president of the Canadian Counselling Association (CCA) being the director of the Manitoba chapter for the last four years. He was recognized for his contributions to school counselling in Manitoba and receiving their highest honour, the R.J. Cochrane Award in 1990. Lorne served in an international capacity, teaching educators as a volunteer in the Caribbean through the Organization for Cooperation in Overseas Development (OCOD) for some 10 years. He also participated in many community organizations. He was an avid collector and hobbyist, musician, sailor, pilot, cyclist, skier, and amateur astronomer. He was a man of great spiritual strength with deep faith and love for God. Many were conscious of his spiritual wisdom and benefited from his search for truth. II Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but onto them also that love his appearing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg MB R3B 2H8. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m., at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, with visitation one hour prior to the service time.   • I am so thankful & appreciative for having known & for having worked with Lorne at St. James-Assiniboia School Division. His guidance & knowledge enriched us all. Lorne had such an empathic approach which endeared us all the more to him. Myself, as well as all of the Guidance Counselors, were so grateful for his invaluable insights & assistance in our work with children & parents.
