FERN JAMES With deep regret and sadness, the family of Fern James announces her passing on Sunday, May 20, 2001 at Victoria General Hospital. Fern will be lovingly and fondly remembered by her children and grandchildren, Marilyn (Poor), Donald and Calvin, Steven, Cheryl, Keleigh, Crystal (Ambrosino) her sister Grace Huhn of Pine Falls, MB; and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Fern was born in Gilbert Plains, MB on June 16, 1919 to Walter and Christena French. She was married to Cecil James on November 16, 1938 and, together, they raised four children. Fern was predeceased by her daughter Christina Ruth; her husband Cecil; her sister Lorna; her brothers, Walter and Jack; and her parents. Fern was raised in Pine Falls and moved to a farm near Grand View, MB where she homesteaded with her husband. She resided in Dauphin, MB before moving to Rainy River, ON in 1951. While living in Rainy River, she was an active member of the United Church choir. She was always known for her culinary skills and used her creative cooking expertise in various business and personal endeavours. In 1967, she moved to Winnipeg with her family. Fern was an active member of the Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and, in 1997, received her 45 year service pin. She lived to help others however she could and was always giving gifts and love to everyone in need. Through her wonderful sense of humour and infectious laughter, she made friends wherever she went. She was a loyal friend and generous to all who knew her. She loved nothing better than to be with family and friends and to enjoy life. Her phenomenal memory for details of everyone around her endeared her to all. She remembered everyone she came in contact with and was always looking for a connection to whomever she met. Her generous and loving spirit will be with us always because she was a strong and determined woman who wanted only the best of everything for everyone she knew and loved. We will all miss her good, kind nature and genuine, unconditional love. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, Wardlaw and Nassau, Winnipeg. Reception will follow. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital who provided her with exceptional care during her many "visits." A special thanks to Drs. Permack and Scurrah. The kindness and compassion from the nursing staff on the fifth floor will always be treasured. Thank You. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220.
