ORA MAY MacARTHUR It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ora May MacArthur from this life. Ora died peacefully on May 19, 2001 at the Victoria General Hospital after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, her sister Marjorie and brother Tom. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Colin and grandchildren Sara and Lexi; daughter Cathy Lucas (Len), grandchildren Kristin and Tim; by her sisters, Elsie and Noreen and her nieces and nephews. Ora was born in London, Ontario but lived most of her adult life in Manitoba. Ora was an ardent sports enthusiast. In her younger days she rode horses in national and international competitions in eastern Canada and the U.S. In later years she was an excellent lawn bowler, representing Manitoba on a 4s team in the Canadian Championships a few years ago. She loved lawn bowling and the camaraderie of her fellow bowlers. Until her retirement, Ora was employed by the Province of Manitoba having worked in several departments, including the Department of Nursing. She was actively involved in her community and church. For many years Ora was a member of Norwood United Church and was a long time superintendent of the Explorer Group at that church. More recently, she very much enjoyed attending Charleswood United Church with her daughter. Ora was an avid bridge player, reader and in regular attendance at the performances of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Manitoba Theatre Centre. She enjoyed the company of her friends and particularly loved family get togethers and reunions. Ora spent much of her time following the activities of her grandchildren and they were a constant source of pride and enjoyment for their Nana. She will be sadly missed. Oras recent years were greatly enhanced by The Waverley, Home Care and, in particular, her friend Carl from the VON. The family would like to thank Dr. Gwen Kalansky for her years of care and support and the medical and nursing staff on the 4th floor of the Victoria General Hospital for their professionalism and kindness. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. In lieu of flowers, donation to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6 would be gratefully received. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
