KATHERINE WINGER (nee Yaremkewich) Peacefully, on Monday, May 21, 2001, at Seven Oaks Hospital, Katherine Winger passed away at the age of 79 after a brief illness. Katherine was born on April 21, 1922 in Ukraine. She immigrated to Canada in 1938 with her mother and sister to join her father who established a homestead for them. She attended Happy Thought School in East Selkirk. Upon graduating Katherine taught school for one year in Falconer and then moved to Winnipeg and worked at Canada Packers with her friends. After her marriage to Nicholas Winger on September 7, 1946 they made their home in West Kildonan. With the birth of her children, Katherine devoted herself to family and home. She enjoyed making excellent meals for her family at any opportunity. Katherine was a faithful member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. She was a source of physical and emotional strength for many family members in their times of need. Katherine cared for her husband Nicholas during his illness in the last two years of his life. Above all else, her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Katherine was loved and respected by all who knew her: a gentle lady who touched so many lives and who will be forever loved and remembered. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary and husband Nicholas. Katherine will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Joanne Tarapaski and husband Marlin of Winnipeg; son Dr. Michael Winger and wife Marisa of Windsor, ON; grandchildren, Elaine and Robert Tarapaski of Winnipeg, Nicole, Kathleen and Christina Winger of Windsor; sister Stephanie Zyblock of Winnipeg; aunt Luba Pereshluha of Windsor; extended family and friends. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank all the staff of the I.C.U. and on 5th floor, Unit 7 at Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassionate care.
