Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEARL GEORGE "DEMPSEY" CAREFOOT With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on Saturday, May 19, 2001 at his home in Elm Creek at the age of 78. He was predeceased by his son, Ross Cameron, and brother Melvin. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 51 years, Helen Marie; son Brad (Chris) daughter Val (Jim Esau) sisters, Ethel Shewchuk, Zena (Glen Rennick), and Eilleen Campbell; seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will always cherish his memory. Dempsey was born in Virden on May 15, 1923 where he spent his younger years. After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy in the Second World War, he returned to join the Manitoba Hydro where he was a part of bringing electricity to many small Manitoba communities. During his brief visits home to Virden, he met and married Helen Marie Cook on July 13, 1950. They moved to a number of communities with Hydro until 1954 when they moved to Elm Creek where they raised their family. Dad always said he was lucky in that "he had a job that he loved to be a part of" He worked and lived the life of Manitoba Hydro for 37 years until his retirement in 1983. Dad appreciated those that gave back to the community and worked many hours building ball fields, playgrounds, rinks, and other community projects. He was an Honorary Life and Charter Member of the local Kinsmen club. He was also a proud and active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Community work, curling, hunting, fishing conventions, and later travelling with very dear friends, were part of his busy life but he always had a keen interest in his childrens and grandchildrens sports and other activities. At Dempseys request, cremation has taken place and service was held on May 21, in Elm Creek. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so wish, donations may be made in Dempseys memory to the Elm Creek Firefighters, Box 99, Elm Creek, MB, ROG ONO or charity of ones choice. Doyles of Carman in care of arrangements.
