CONSTANCE MAY VIRTUE (nee EATON) Peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 Constance May Virtue passed away at the Grace Hospital in her 98th year. Connie was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa on November 14, 1903. Her father Col. Robert (Violet) Eaton served in the Canadian Army during the Boer War. They returned to Canada in 1904. Connie was raised in Alberta and was very proud of winning the Governor Generals Medal in Grade 8. She met Ronald in Calgary and they were married in 1929. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald in 1963 and son-in-law Norm Mackie in 1974. She was also predeceased by four brothers, Mel, Gordon, Douglas, and Bligh. Connie will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jean (Bob) Pollock of Bloomington, IN, and Barbara Mackie of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Bryan Pollock of Chicago, Heather Pollock of Chicago, Jeff (Lori) Pollock of Indianapolis, Jennifer (Dakin) Burdick of Bloomington, and Ron Mackie of Carman, MB; great-grandchildren, Corwin and Lorna Burdick and Brittany Mackie. She is also survived by brother Bruce (Alice) Eaton of Vancouver and sister May Butchart of Hope, BC; as well as many nieces and nephews. Connie always made people feel comfortable in her home. She was a great cook and charming hostess. She was always there for family and friends. Connie has been a member of St. Georges Church since she and Ron moved to Winnipeg in 1933. She was an active member of the Chancel Guild. She was also a member of the Winnipeg Winter Club for many years. Bridge was one of her favourite pastimes until she was well into her 90s. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 29, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Georges Crescentwood Anglican Church, 168 Wilton Ave. at Grosvenor. The family would like to thank Home Care Staff who enabled Connie to remain in her home until her final hospitalization, also the staff on 4E at Grace Hospital for their kindness and care over the last three months. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to St. Georges Church, 168 Wilton Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3M 3C3 or to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7.
