Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN LILLIAN COURCHENE With our deepest sadness we announce the passing of our dearest wife, mother, grandmother, Joan Lillian Courchene on May 22, 2001 at her home in Winnipeg. Predeceased by her parents, William Courchene and Martha Fontaine; her sisters, Isabel Barron, Evelyn Lang and Edna Fewchuk; brothers, Larry Courchene, Fern Courchene and Russell Fontaine. She leaves to mourn, her husband Raymond DeGrace; son Marc Courchene, son Dean DeGrace and partner Michelle; daughter Mary Courchene, partner Chuck; and her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason, Chantele and Leslie-Anna, all of Winnipeg. Brothers, Fabian Morrisseau and Ernest Fontaine of Fort Alexander, MB; sister Doris Kozub of Riverton, MB; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws across Canada. Joan was born April 29, 1945 in Bissett, MB where she spent most of her childhood. She moved to Winnipeg in her late teens and worked a number of years in the garment industry until her illness became difficult. She met her husband Raymond in Winnipeg and lived here and in Toronto throughout her life. She was diagnosed with diabetes in the early 1980s and the disease had taken its toll on her over the years. She was an amazingly strong woman and refused to let her illness get the better of her. She suffered in great pain for some time near the end of her life but refused to give up. She was finally taken from us to be with her mother and father. We all love you and will miss you dearly but its now time to sleep peacefully and rest, at last the pain is gone. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., Winnipeg. Cremation will take place and a private family burial will take place at a later date.
