Date of Passing: Apr 23, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySIDNEY (SID) BEALES Sidney (Sid) John Beales, born May 29, 1916 in Emerson, MB, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 23, 2001 at St. Josephs Hospital (St. Francis Care Home) in Bellingham, WA after a short illness. Survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary A. Beales; his daughters, Maureen McMillan (Bill) and Brenda Michie (Jim) granddaughters, Constable Kathy Williams (Mike) and Ellen MacSteven (Randy) and great-grandchildren, Marhyn, Kathleen and Jack Ross MacSteven. Also niece Marlene Anderson of Seattle, WA. Sid and Mary were childhood sweethearts who were married in the United Church in Blaine, WA on December 28, 1941. Sid worked for the Great Northern Railroad for 35 years at the White Rock Train Station. He saw many changes in White Rock over the years but was particularly thrilled with the promenade. While on walks he often stopped to visit the station which is now the local museum. Sid was a good athlete who played on the Emerson Ice Hockey Club, was also a good runner and tennis player. He curled and was a member, for many years, of the White Rock Curling Club when it first began in the Old Silver Moon Building. Sid had a great sense of humour, loved to "joke" with his buddies and tease all his family female members! He knew many wonderful stories of the old days in White Rock and about the bygone years of railroading. Sid will be sadly missed by his family who loved him dearly and by his good friends, neighbours and relatives. A celebration of his life was held at the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club, 1284 - 184 St., Surrey, BC, on Monday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the White Rock Museum, 14970 Maine Dr., White Rock, BC V4B 1C4.
