ROBERT DAVID McGIMPSEY Peacefully after a lengthy illness on May 24, 2001 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Bert was born in Winnipeg on February 9, 1928. He settled in Charleswood where he enjoyed living for 29 years. One of his greatest pastimes was feeding the birds and watching the wildlife that visited his backyard. His memory will be forever cherished by his wife of over 50 years, Ruth; daughters, Eileen (Eric) and Carol (Mike) and son Robert; grandchildren, Erin, Allison, Jody, Leah, Jennifer, Patrick, and Cody; brothers, Bill, Cliff (Muriel), and Len (Phyllis) as well as numerous relatives and friends. Bert worked for the City of Winnipeg for many years before retiring in 1993. During his retirement Bert used his talents as a woodworker building many different types of birdfeeders, houses and lawn ornaments. He would also show his artistic side by creating shell and rock "creatures" getting a chuckle from our reaction to them, especially his green wooden snake he put in the tree. Bert loved camping and the outdoors. His passion for sports consumed many hours as an observer and participant. He was an avid curler and played baseball for many summers. Bert and Ruth, or Rufus, as he always called her would have celebrated their 51st anniversary on June 10th. The family wishes to acknowledge the caring and attentive staff on the palliative care unit at St. Boniface Hospital, as well as the many medical and nursing staff who cared for him over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University Hospital, 339 Windermere Rd., London, ON, N6A 5A5. At Berts request, cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date.
