WILLIAM (Bill) SHINNAN Gently and at peace on Saturday, May 26, 2001 at Riverview Health Care Centre, Winnipeg, William (Bill) Shinnan passed away in his 81st year. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Margret and James and older brother, Robert. He is survived by his partner in life and wife, Dorothy, daughter Roberta (Gene) Oswald, and son Bill (Bonnie) Shinnan and his younger brother David (Betty) Shinnan. After his enlistment in 1941 into the Canadian Armed Forces (R.C.A.F.), Bill served with pride and distinction in a career that not only involved Canadian Bases assignments, but also included three tours of Duty in Europe. Chief Warrant Officer W. Shinnan retired from her Majestys Service in 1974 at CFB Winnipeg and took up residency in Nanaimo, B.C. A secondary military career followed where Major Shinnan co-ordinated support activities for the R.C.A.F. Air Cadets Summer Glider Program. Bill participated with joy in being able to present "Graduation Wings" to many cadets involved with this program. The annual "William Shinnan Award" continues to be presented to outstanding Cadet achievement at the glider camp currently based at 19 Wing Comox. Bills son-in-law Gene and daughter-in-law Bonnie along with grandchildren Ryan and Daniel cherish in resolve that "Nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much". Fondest memories will always be celebrated by friends who he touched as well as relatives in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Central Canada, as well as the United Kingdom. "The hearts that love you dearly are the ones that will never forget," as shared by Dave and Daisy and Sandra Junor and family. Dave and Betty Shinnan and family walk beside you every day with memories of joy that will not go away. A special place is in the hearts of Heather, Doug and Sandra (Riley and Erin), Auntie Kathleen, BettyAnne and David, Robert and Angie, Leslie and Bernie, Lyle and cousins Jack and Jim and family. Clearly, the sentiments as expressed in the Airforce Marchpast were his testimony and will be ours for safe keeping! Through adversity to the stars. We love you! A family remembrance is being planned for Regina, Saskatchewan. It would be most appropriate to direct memorial donations to the Garden of Memories Ste. 189 P.O. Box 1700 Station Forces, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 3Y5. A celebration of his life is to take place at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Silver and Whytewold 17 Wing CFB Winnipeg, Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., May 30, 2001.
