JOHN (JACK) deWOLF Peacefully on May 25, 2001 in Victoria, BC, after a brief illness, Jack deWolf passed away at the age of 94 after a full and happy life. Predeceased by his beloved wife Cecile in 1977 and his brother Hen in 1998, he will be sorely missed by his daughters, Alida Frame (George) and Billie Nodelman (Perry) his five grandchildren, Pam (Humphrey Vernaus) and Russ Frame, Joshua, Asa, and Alice Nodelman; his sister-in-law Mina deWolf; and his dear friend Myrtle Presidente. Born in Holland in 1906, Jack immigrated with his parents to Winnipeg in 1913. He joined the Union Bank, later amalgamated with the Royal Bank of Canada, in 1924 and remained with the bank for 42 years. He worked in a number of Manitoba towns, including Russell where he met his future wife, before returning to Winnipeg in 1942. After retiring from the bank in 1966, he worked for Public Finance/Inland Trust before moving to Victoria in 1973. In his younger years, Jack was an avid fisherman and cottager, a fan of Lake Malachi, ON, and a square dancer and square dance caller. In later life, he enjoyed swimming, reading, writing and managing his investments. He loved music and attended the symphony and the opera, where a great performance could move him to tears. He was intellectually curious, he loved good conversation, and he was particularly proud of achieving his Bachelor of Arts with a major in Creative Writing in 1978 at the age of 71. A convivial man, he always treasured his family and friends and was a congenial host at many gatherings. His family especially thank Myrtle and all the members of the "swim gang" in Victoria for the love and companionship they gave him over many years. According to his wishes, there will be no service. Friends so wishing may make a donation in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
