STEPHEN VINCENT LEITCH It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at the age of 18 years. Stephen leaves his loving family, mother and father Betty and Don; brother Andrew and sister Rae; grandma Jeannine Leitch; granny Peggy Lopata; special uncle Vincent Lopata; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and very special friends and neighbours. Stephen was predeceased by his grandpa Izydor Lopata. Stephen was born in Winnipeg on March 7, 1983 and welcomed into his family a couple of weeks later. The arrival of our new baby was a cause for celebration especially by Andrew and Rae. As he grew, his spontaneous joy and enthusiasm brought happiness to all his family and friends. He was loved far more than he ever knew. Stephen attended Neil Campbell School, MBCI, and Miles Macdonell Collegiate. At the time of his passing he was preparing to graduate. Stephen was especially fond of classic rock and roll and golden oldies, sharing his music with friends. He loved swimming and was a competitive swimmer with MANTA for several years, following his brother and sister, and taking great pride in being physically fit. Computers, games and the Internet were a common bond with his close friends. He enjoyed being called upon to help someone and fix a computer problem. With his family Stephen was able to visit every province of Canada making friends everywhere. In 2000 Stephen and Grandma took a special trip to England and Scotland, just the two of them. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Stephen Leitch Music Award in care of Miles Macdonell School, 757 Roch Street, Winnipeg, R2K 2R1. Pallbearers will be Matthew Leitch, Adam Leitch, Gerry Campbell, Amy Campbell, Adrian DePorto. Prayers 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 4 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 341 Munroe Ave. at Brazier Street. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with Reverend Father Greg Mulligan officiating. Interment Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. • I met Stephen in high school during our final year. His warmth and kindness was impossible not to feel when you knew him. I still think of him every year in the summer. He is still truly missed 24 years later. - Posted by: Ashlee (Friend) on: Aug 19, 2025
