JACK WASSERMAN 1928 - 2001 It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Jack on May 31, 2001 at the age of 72. Jack was born into the home of Max and Rose Wasserman on June 22, 1928. He grew up in North Winnipeg, graduated from St. Johns High School, entered the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba from which he graduated in 1950. He operated his own retail pharmacy for a number of years. It was during this time he met and married his beloved Shirley with whom he shared nearly 45 wonderful years. They subsequently went on to have two children, Cita (with whom he shared his birthday) and Ronald. In the early 1960s he opted for a new career in education. Upon graduation from the Faculty of Education in 1966 he taught chemistry and biology at West Kildonan Collegiate until 1980. He then returned back to his initial career as a pharmacist until his retirement in 1994. Jack was a unique and wonderful individual. He had a terrific wit and sense of humour. When Jack entered a room laughter and lively conversation were certain to follow. He was sought by many for advice as he had a way of rationalizing issues so that what appeared an onerous or insoluble problem could be perceived as one of lifes foibles to be accepted as an integral part of our existence in a less than perfect world. He was a devoted and loving husband, brother and father, enjoying as close a relationship with his wife and children as one could hope to have. He took great pride in his children and spoke proudly of their achievements. His memory is both a blessing and a comfort to his family and to the many friends he touched throughout his life. He is survived by his sister Monica (Louis) Levin, his wife Shirley, his daughter Cita (Hartley) Yuffe, his son Ronald (Devra) and granddaughter Beth Wasserman, and many relatives and friends. Jack was interred at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on June 1, 2001. The service was performed by Rabbi A. Green and Rabbi L. Berkel. Eulogy was given by Jack Litvack and pallbearers were Mel Hirt, Gerald Levin, Danny Nelko, Al Segal, Morley Wiseman and Hartley Yuffe. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff involved in Jacks care at the St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jacks memory to the Jack Wasserman Memorial Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba at 477-7525.
