Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRYK OSTROWSKI February 1, 1920 - May 28, 2001 After a valiant fight, Henry Ostrowski of Powerview passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 81 years, surrounded by his family. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Meta of 48 years; sons, Henry Jr. and Uve (Judy) daughter Lucia (Gerry) Thomas; as well as many other relatives and friends. Henry was predeceased by his parents, Agnes (1949) and Joseph (1945) three brothers, Alexander, Anthony and Walter; and his infant son Heinz (1959). Henry arrived in Canada from Germany in 1949 and landed in Halifax. He travelled to Winnipeg in 1950 and started working for the City of Winnipeg. From there he went to Long Lake, working in the mine for a period of time from 1950 - 1951. He then moved to Powerview, MB, where he helped to build the Powerview Hydro Generating Station. After its completion he went to work at Pine Falls Paper Mill (Abitibi Price). He met and married Meta in 1953 and settled in Powerview, where they raised their children. He continued to work for 33 years at the Pine Falls Paper Mill, from which he retired in 1984. He was a talented boxer who enjoyed competing in both Poland and Germany as a young man. Throughout his life he enjoyed many other hobbies, which included gardening, cooking, long walks, and hunting. He especially loved to dance and sing when he got together with family and his many friends. He had a special passion for fishing and the breeding of his prize, racing/homing pigeons. Henry will always be remembered for his strong character, determination, straight-forwardness and his willingness to give a helping hand. But most of all to those who were closest to him, he will be remembered for his kind, gentle and caring heart. He was a man of great integrity.
