MORRELL ADELINE BERG (nee OMIT) With her loving family by her side, Morrell peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 in the Concordia Hospital. Mom now rests eternally with her beloved husband James Arthur (Art), who predeceased her seven years ago in August of 1994. She was also predeceased by her parents; sister Elnora; and by her brothers, George (in infancy), Orrie and Neil. Left to cherish her memory and love her forever are her two daughters, Lynda Lafontaine (Bill Porth) of Kenora, ON, and Penny-Lee Blundon (Ron) of Winnipeg; and her three grandchildren, Riel Lafontaine (Amy) of Grand Forks, ND, Ryan and Jennifer Blundon of Winnipeg. She is also survived by two sisters, Fern Mattison of Preeceville, SK, and Ruby Holmberg of Sturgis, SK; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends both far and near. Mom was born on the family farm north of Ketchen, SK on October 1, 1916. Morrell and Art were married in Ketchen on December 3, 1941. During the Second World War, she worked in Winnipeg, Trenton and Toronto in war factories, and often entertained us with stories of those days in the big cities with her lifelong friend Vivian Antonio. After the war, Dad began his career with the CNR and they lived in numerous small and often isolated points. While living in Mafeking, MB she began a six year partnership in Pine Point Lodge on Lake Athapap at Cranberry Portage, MB. After moving to Grandview, MB, Mom earned a position as hospital cook. She became an avid member of The United Church, UCW, Community Rink Convener, The Rebecca Lodge, and enjoyed playing bridge. Following Dads retirement from the CNR they moved to Winnipeg, where Mom was employed in the CSR Department of Concordia Hospital for 10 years. They led a full and active retirement which included travelling, and playing cards. Together they made many friends through seniors groups, tour groups, and at St. Michaels Villa. Her community involvement included knitting for the Christmas Cheer Board, canvassing for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, knitting afghans, and making crafts for various Spring Teas for seniors groups at East St. Paul and St. Michaels Villa. A favourite pastime was playing cards with the East St. Paul Seniors Group. Mom was renowned for her culinary skills, especially her pies, stews and home made bread. She lived life to the fullest. The most important aspect of Moms life had always been her family and her fondest memories were of time spent with them, especially her grandchildren. At this time we wish to express our love and gratitude to our family, friends and neighbours who have helped to make Moms life so enjoyable. Her "Angels" at St. Michaels Villa: Stella, Olive, and Bev; special friends Evelyn and Hank Redbourne; Dr. Cindy Pachal, and the staff of Concordia Hospital. We thank you for your kind words, visits, food, cards, and prayers during her illness. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Green Acres Lane. Pallbearers will be Ron Blundon, Bill Porth, Riel Lafontaine, Allan Holmberg, Bob Antonio, and Claude Redbourne. Mom will be laid to rest next to Dad in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. "Mom, We will always love you and will miss you forever."
