Born in Yarm-on-Tees, England, November 4, 1910, the family immigrated to Winnipeg in 1912 where they settled in Brooklands. Dolly owned and operated her own beauty salon, retiring after her marriage in 1968. She resided in West Kildonan for over 32 years. Dollys life was spent giving to others and as a 70 year member of the Rebekahs Miriam and Ivy Lodges was recently honoured with a Life Membership. In 1986 she was awarded the Degree of Chivalry from the Order of which she was justly proud. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to many destinations all over North America, also returning many times to England to visit relatives and friends. She was well known for her beautiful handwork and most of the family and many friends have a crocheted tablecloth, embroidery, or some knitted article to remember her. For many years she knit articles of clothing for the Christmas Cheer Board and several other organizations. Predeceased by her husband, James (Alf) in 1981; father and mother, George and Maud Ayre and two brothers, Ted and William, her memory will be cherished by nephew Ron Ayre (Darlene), Jeff, Joyann, Kaeleigh and Sean; Carolyn (Layne) nieces, Beverley Bestland (Cordell), Tim, Naomi Janzen (Brian), Adrienne Siemens (Eric), Colton, Landon, Rebecca and Olivia, Matthew (Anita), Hannah and Everrette; Bernice Grabowski (Tom), Brenda, Blaine (Marni), Kevin and Lisa; special cousins in England Dorothy (Babs) Lumb, Jennie Hickman and Joyce Hickman, and Winnie Andresen, B.C. and their families; stepsons, James and Harry Langford and their families. Also other family members and many dear friends and their families. Dolly was a longtime member of Kildonan United Church and appreciated the visits and cards from church members when she was no longer able to attend. Sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Concordia Place and the Maples Personal Care Home for their care and kindness over the past year. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba Inc., 1-333 Vaughn St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 3J9, or Kildonan United Church, 187 Kilbride Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2V 0Z7, or a charity of your choice. A memorial service to celebrate Dollys life will be held Wednesday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., N.K., with Rev. Tony Maunder officiating. Interment in Brookside Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
