CRAIG ANDREW SKOGLUND B.Sc., M.D. Our son, brother and uncle, Craig, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2001, surrounded by his immediate family and close friends following a quiet and dignified struggle with cancer. His soul has passed into the keeping of his Lord and Saviour forever more. He is survived by his loving mother, Selma; one brother, Elliot and nephew, Christopher; one sister, Susan (Gerald) Woywada, one niece, Britany and nephew Jarett, all of Erickson, MB. He was predeceased by his father, Gordon, in 1998; his grandparents, Alfred and Edith Skoglund and Joe and Jennie Johnson; and an infant sister, Shirley. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins, and colleagues and friends. Although he was born in Winnipeg, Craig was raised in Erickson, MB growing up on the family farm. He attended school at Lund and in Erickson where he completed his Grade 12. He then attended Brandon University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree prior to enrolling at the University of Manitoba to study Medicine. Craig was fortunate to receive many scholarships and bursaries to help fund his educational endeavors. During his medical studies he was able to take a six month elective at the teaching hospital in Uppsala, Sweden. Following graduation from the University of Manitoba with his MD, he completed a year of internship before beginning his career as an Emergency Physician at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. He completed 11 years in Emergency/Primary Health Care at Health Sciences before embarking on a career in Family Medicine. Craig worked a further 12 years in private practice in the north end of Winnipeg before ill health forced him to retire at the end of 1998. During his last three years of practice Craig took a great interest in practicing Medicine in Northern Manitoba and he made many trips to The Pas to work in and around their community and it gave him great pleasure to widen his horizons meeting and working with new people in the North. In addition to his clinical work he was also on staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital, served on many committees and worked with disadvantaged youth and adults over the years. Craig had many other interests and they included music, travel, reading, sports and being with his friends. He was fortunate to be able to travel the world and was so happy to be able to visit Australia in 1999 during a period of remission with his cancer. He made many friends along the way and their prayers and support were a great sustaining factor during his illness. Craig loved the practice of Medicine and all the opportunities that it gave him to meet and help people, to make friends and to take advantage of what life had to offer. He lived a full and busy life and was very proud of his accomplishments. Although he was a quiet man by nature he had an innate zest for life that enabled him to live his life to the fullest. The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to Drs. Eric Bow and Fred Aoki, the staff at Cancer Care Manitoba (especially Kathy Ramesar and Nancy Gould) and to all his friends who have been so helpful, caring and supportive during his illness. Funeral services were held at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB on June 7 at 4:30 p.m. with Pastor Alf Bell officiating. There was a memorial service at Hilltop Baptist Church, Erickson, MB in conjunction with the committal on June 9 with Pastor Jeff Robinson officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined but, if desired, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to Hilltop Baptist Church Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, in care of Hilltop Baptist Church, Erickson, MB R0J 0P0 or to a charity of choice. IM FREE Dont grieve for me, for now Im free; Im following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call; I closed my eyes and left it all. I could not stay another day; To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found that place on that special day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss Ah yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My lifes been full, Ive savoured much Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my time seems all to brief; Dont lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me; God wanted me now - He set me free! "Rest in Peace, Craig-We Love You."
