Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE SOKOLYK Peacefully with her family at her side, Anne Sokolyk of Dominion City passed away at the Emerson Hospital on June 2, 2001, at the age of 87 years. Anne was born in Stuartburn, MB on July 13, 1913 to Simeon and Akcena Smook. She obtained her teaching certificate from the Manitoba Normal School in 1936 and taught in several one-room schools in southeastern Manitoba until 1948. In 1942 she married Michael Sokolyk and together they farmed on the Sokolyk family farm at Stuartburn. In 1948 they moved to Dominion City and operated the family business for the next 40 years. Annes faith was an important part of her life; she was a lifelong member of the Stuartburn Ukrainian Catholic Church. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Geraldine (Bob) Fallis and granddaughters, Jennifer and Kristen; son Taras (Janice) and grandson Michael. She is also survived by brothers, Steve and Jerry; sisters, Dora Klem and Kay Nason; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael on May 11, 1982; her parents, Simeon and Akcena Smook; brothers, John, Bill, Nick, Michael, Peter; and sisters, Lena and Mary. The most important part of Moms life was her family, particularly her grandchildren. Mom enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren, and was extremely proud of their achievements. Baba always looked forward to their visits and made sure she always had enough of their favourite foods available. In her retirement, Mom enjoyed working in her garden and visiting with family and friends from near and far, across Canada and the U.S.A. We would like to express our gratitude to family and friends who helped make her life so enjoyable. Prayers were said on June 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dominion City United Church, with a celebration of Divine Liturgy on June 6 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church at Stuartburn, with Rev. Fr. Ihor Royik officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Smook, Nick Smook Jr., Chris Smook, Bill Sokolyk, Gene Kohut, Orest Kohut. Honorary pallbearers will be Wendy Smook, Toni Kukowski, Maurice Kohut, Gene Klem, Ben Smook and Ben Wiwcharyk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Moms memory to the Emerson Hospital Palliative Care Room, Emerson Hospital, Emerson, MB R0A 0L0, or a charity of choice. The family would like to extend our gratitude to the Emerson Hospital staff for their attentive and compassionate care during Moms illness.
