ROSALEEN MARGARET DOUTHART March 4, 1944 - June 3, 2001 Surrounded by her family and close friends, Rosaleen peacefully passed away after a valiant battle with cancer on Sunday, June 3 at the age of 57. Rosaleen will be missed by her husband Gerry; her daughter Bernice (Jean) Prenovault; her son Eamon (Caroline) and her grandchildren, Emily, Aiden, Colin, and Declan. Rosaleen is survived by her sisters, Kay (Terry) of Vancouver, Brenda (Doug) of London, UK, Maureen (Mike) of Devon, UK; and brother Jim (Maureen) McKeown of Winnipeg; many nieces and nephews; as well as her very "best" friend Mary; and special friends Billy and Lilly Clifford as well as Harry and Inke Busscher. She also leaves to mourn, her sister-in-law Mary and family; brother-in-law Stephen; and friends Danny and Patsy McGuire of Northern Ireland. Rosaleen was born in Larne, Northern Ireland in 1944 and immigrated with her family to Canada in 1967 where she lived in Winnipeg for 34 years. In 1983, she graduated as a Licensed Practical nurse and worked for 11 years on E5 at the St. Boniface Hospital as a conscientious and dedicated caregiver. Rosaleen will always be fondly remembered for her great sense of humour and greatly respected for her ingenious ways of improving the quality of her patients lives. Besides her nursing career, Rosaleen also loved to spend time with her family. She had many close friends whom she treasured very much. She enjoyed music, travelling, golfing and gardening, but her greatest pleasure in life always came from being with people, sharing stories and making them laugh. The family would like to thank everyone for the many kindnesses shown throughout this difficult time. Thank you for all the flowers, meals, visits, prayers and numerous notes of love and support. There are no words that can properly express the gratitude the family feels to all of you who made such an effort to look after Rosaleen at home so that she could stay there as long as possible which was her greatest wish. A special thanks to Dr. Daeninck, Tracy, Pat, Heather, all the nurses of CancerCare, the staff on 5B at St. Boniface Hospital and Dr. A.W. Alvi, a good friend, for all your support and guidance. The family also wishes to acknowledge the staff on E3 Palliative Care at the Riverview Health Care Centre for their compassion and support in the final days. According to Rosaleens wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service and mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 7 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd., Fr. Fred Olds officiating. A private inurnment will take place the following day at Assumption Cemetery, Queen of Heaven mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers are Mary Wrublowsky, Bea Akkerman, Helen McKenzie, Louise Buelow-Smith, Ann Sweeney, Ann Roll, Linda Boehm, Pat Allen, Rosella Morse. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosaleens memory to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. When Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, tis like a morn in Spring. In the lilt of Irish laughter You can hear the angels sing. When Irish hearts are happy, All the world seems bright and gay. And when Irish eyes are smiling, Sure they steal your heart away. Granny always knew how to make people smile. Even when I was little, I remember seeing a bright twinkle in Granny's eyes. She wanted to see not only me, but my entire family be together and happy. Nearly 13 years have passed, and not a day goes by that I never stop thinking about her. RIP Granny. AMDG - Posted by: Aidan Prenovault (Grandson) on: Apr 01, 2013
