LAURENE JANE STEBBING (nee LEE) February 10, 1911 - June 1, 2001 Leaves behind to celebrate the fullness of her life, her sons, Ted, Jim (Alma Turner) and daughters, Lynda (Bob Sizeland) and Elizabeth (Tim Higgins) grandsons, James Stebbing, Rob and Bill Sizeland and granddaughter Heather Stebbing. She is also survived by her brother Wilfred Lee (Doris "Monty" Henderson) and many nieces and nephews. After growing up on a farm near Newdale, MB, she came to Winnipeg to train as a Registered Nurse and graduated in 1933 from the Winnipeg General Hospital. Her love of babies led her to an obstetrical specialty, which she studied in Chicago. She left her formal nursing career in July 1942 to marry Herbert Stebbing. They raised their family in Winnipeg, attending Harrow United Church since its beginning. Her life was saddened by the premature loss of her brothers, Leslie and Benjamin and her sisters, Ina, Isabel, Amy, Laura and her beloved Lindy. Her husband, Herbert Stebbing, predeceased her in January 1987. She was very proud of her family, happy with their successes and supportive in times of need. At last Christmas dinner, when asked to add to the grace something for which she was grateful, she replied simply, "Profoundly thankful for family". And we are profoundly thankful for her. She was intelligent and strong, generous and humble, fair minded and gentle. She was our Mom. A memorial service for Laurene Stebbing will be held Thursday, June 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Harrow United Church. The Rev. Teresa Moysey and The Very Rev. Bob Osborne will preside.
