STELLA LOUISE BIRNIE (nee WHALEY) Peacefully, at home in Neepawa, MB; Stella, beloved mother, granny, and great-granny passed away at age 91, June 1, 2001. Stella, daughter of George and Ida Whaley was born April 19, 1910 at Grandview, MB, and married Roy Leslie Birnie, July 9, 1938. She will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by son Bonar (partner Jackie), children, Cole, Renee; and mother Eldy of Abbotsford, BC; son Bob (Nina) of Neepawa, children, Laura Lee (Chris) Shearer of Brandon, MB, Tana (Greg) Squires of Airdrie, AB; son John (Mary Jo), children Sheldon, Alisa, Ian, Jaydn of Dawson Creek, BC; daughters, Jean and Alice of Winnipeg; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Stacey, James Shearer; Brendan, Mason Squires; Shaun Birnie; cousins, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, parents, daughter-in-law Carolyn (Bonar), and husband, Roy. All will remember Stella for her sense of fun and as a very kind, thoughtful, loving, and generous person. She was always interested and involved in all family activities. Over the years, she contributed many volunteer hours to the community and church. For over 60 years, her love of Clear Lake, MB, was shared with family, friends, and their pets. She loved music, literature, art, knitting, crocheting, crosswords, and dancing. She and Roy instructed the local Square Dance Club. While teaching at Eden, MB, she coached the high school girls sports teams and was the CGIT leader where she became known as "Pat". She was a charter member of the Neepawa Inner Wheel and an active member of the UCW. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to honour her life will be held at Neepawa United Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. WHITES FUNERAL HOME, Neepawa, in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. The family is grateful for the kindness and dedication given to her over the years.
