SOPHIA (SOPHIE) GABEL On Monday, June 4, 2001, Sophia Gabel passed away at Bethania Personal Care Home. Sophie was born May 9, 1909 in Feketic, Hungary. After suffering numerous hardships, she came to Canada with her husband Jakob and mother Elizabeth in 1948. They settled in East Kildonan, where they remained for the balance of their lives. She was predeceased by her father in 1939 and her mother in 1961; by her husband Jakob in 1978; her brother Conrad Krieger in 1997 and sister-in-law Hilda Krieger in 1986. Sophie is survived by nieces, Trudy (Glenn) Davis and Ellie (Paul) Rapinchuk; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Due to failing health, Sophie resided at Bethania Personal Care Home for the past two years. Sophies family would like to thank special friends, Marina, Maurice and Pauline. A special thanks to the staff of Bethania Personal Care Home. Visitation will be Thursday, June 7 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Cr., East Kildonan. Interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sophies memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
