MAUREEN GAIL BATEMAN (nee CANNON) It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Maureen on June 4, 2001, at the age of 60. Maureen was born in Winnipeg on May 2, 1941. She was baptized in St. Marys Cathedral and grew up in St. Vital. She attended St. Eugene, Norberry School, and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate where she was the recipient of the Governor-Generals Medal in Home Economics. She was married in Fort Garry United Church and was a member of St. Vital United Church. At an early age, Maureen began caregiving for others when her parents passed away and then continuing on with her own family. She was actively involved in foster parenting and cared for numerous children who entered her home. Maureen was involved with highland dancing along with her daughters, and she volunteered at the Pavilion of Scotland for many years. Maureen enjoyed gardening and travelling and spent many family vacations visiting Duluth, Thief River Falls and other destinations. Maureen also loved spending time at the cottage at Twin Lake Beach with her children, grandchildren and friends. Maureen is survived by her husband Jim and was predeceased by her parents, Ella Dumphy and John Cannon. Maureen will also be lovingly remembered by her family, Scott (Kelly), Susan (Gordon) Fardoe, Jamie (Maureen), Rick (Linda), Lori, Crystal (Shawn), Scott J., Tammy, Cody and Ryan; grandchildren, Scott Jr., Taylor, Carling, Shae-Lynn, Jorden and Brennan; and brothers, John (Ethyl) and family, and Jim (Terry) and family. The family would like to thank the numerous friends and relatives for their kind support with special thanks to Shirley Ashton, Marlene Steeves and Lorna Watson. The family would also like to thank the Winnipeg Fire, Ambulance and Police Services for their assistance. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7 at St. Vital United Church, 937 St. Marys Rd.; the Rev. Peter Douglas will perform the service.
