Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET ISOBEL SMITH (nee MURRAY) Margaret Isobel Smith of Shoal Lake passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2001, at the Morley Personal Care Home, at the age of 97 years. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Jim; and her sisters, Mary Bull and Lizzie Stewart. She will be sadly missed by her family, Marie (Roy) Craig of Stonewall, Lawrence (Cathie) Smith of Shoal Lake, Martha (John) Fair of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren, Brant Cosens of Winnipeg, Kevin (Judy) Cosens of Seattle, WA, and Lisa (Sylvain) Brillon of Queenston, ON; great-grandchildren, Megan Cosens, Sloane Cosens, Julien, Celeste, and Alexandre Brillon; and niece Betty (Wilbert) Short. Born on May 28, 1904, in New Pitslago, Scotland, she went to school in Lonmay and worked as a governess in Aberdeen, Scotland. She came to Canada in 1927 and worked in the hospital at Hamiota. She married James David Smith on October 15, 1930. Jim and Margaret farmed in the Shoal Lake-Kelloe area from 1930 to 1967 and then retired in Shoal Lake in 1967. Margaret was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for over 70 years, joining in Hamiota on May 6, 1929 and transferred to Shoal Lake in April, 1932. She was a member of the Shoal Lake Westminster United Church and was active in the UCW. Margaret loved her family and was always proud of their achievements. She loved to garden, knit, bake and do wood carving. She enjoyed reciting poetry, music, playing cards and having coffee and meals with her family and friends. She moved into Morley House on April 22, 1997 and enjoyed all the activities organized by Bessie Stewart and loved the rides in the Handi-Van. She appreciated the care given by nurses and staff. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westminster United Church, Shoal Lake, with Rev. Heidi Koschzeck officiating. Interment will follow in the Shoal Lake Municipal Cemetery. Granddaughter Lisa Cosens Brillon will be the soloist at the service and John Fair will play a tribute from the family. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Cosens, Brian Paterson, Doug Paterson, Ron Bullock, Don Menzies, and Ernie Drozda. Honorary pallbearers will be Brant Cosens, Ethel Bullock, Addie Carscadden, Beryl Johnston, Ronald and Bernice Simpson, Dorothy Burk, Katie Menzies, Florence Dandridge and Gertie McDonald. Rebekahs are considered as honorary and will form an honour guard. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Shoal Lake Handi-Van, Multiple Sclerosis Society, or a charity of your choice.
