Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY JEAN BRIGGS Peacefully, at Health Science Centre on June 6, 2001, Dorothy Jean Briggs of Winnipeg passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Richard in 1998. Jean leaves to mourn, her daughter Nancy Allen (Brian) and their children, Christopher and Jennifer; her son Graham (Peggi) and their children, Ryan, Kelly, and Brett; sisters, Ellen Matheson, Loreen (Lloyd) Brown, Florence (George) De Pauw and Edith (William) Hodkin; and aunt Dorothy Canty. Jean was born on the family farm in the Municipality of Whitehead on October 6, 1933. She received her early schooling at Alexander and Gardiner Schools and continued on to receive a B.A. degree from the Brandon University. In July of 1954 she married Richard Briggs and they moved to Winnipeg where he pursued his business in pharmacy and she gave him moral and physical assistance in his career. Jean enjoyed many years of companionship with her art class group in St. Boniface. She made herself available to many charitable organizations, and donated her time to many worthwhile causes. The family cottage at Chalet Beach provided many fond and lasting memories for Jean, her family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9 at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Should friends so desire, donations in Jeans memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
