Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. WILLIAM KARLINSKY On June 7, 2001, Dr. William Karlinsky, with his wife Minnie by his side, passed away peacefully in the Sharon Home. He was born in Winnipeg on July 18, 1922, to Sonia and Avram, of Winnipegs north end. He attended Aberdeen School, and then St. Johns Tech where he received a scholarship to study medicine at the University of Manitoba. Always an excellent scholar, he graduated with his Medical Degree in 1945, and was awarded the Gold Medal for his class. During his years of medical school, he also served as a Captain in the Canadian Army. Will married Minnie Ratner on August 10, 1947. It was the beginning of a devoted and loving partnership. In 1949, they moved to Emerson, MB where Will began a busy general practice. In 1952, they moved to Rochester, MN where Will studied at the Mayo Clinic. In 1953, they returned to Winnipeg and Will worked at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital at the height of the polio epidemic. He then joined the Winnipeg Clinic, specializing in Internal Medicine and Respirology. In addition to his busy Winnipeg Clinic practice, Will was also a valued staff physician at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Hospital, and Deer Lodge Hospital. Throughout his career, he was active within the University of Manitobas Faculty of Medicine, as an Associate Professor. He served the community tirelessly for many years, practising with skill and compassion. He retired only due to the onset of multiple sclerosis in the early 1980s. Wills family was the source of much joy and happiness, and his family relationships were characterized by love, affection and respect. Will is survived by his wife Minnie; and his four children, Karen of Richmond, BC (married to Barry Corrin), Ellen of Winnipeg (married to Adrian Challis), Harry of Richmond, BC (married to Sally Davis), and Amy of Winnipeg (married to Bryan Magnusson). Will is the proud Zada of Daniel and Sarah Corrin, Aaron and Jonathan Challis, Franny, April, and Elizabeth Karlinsky, and Saul and Anna Magnusson. He is also survived by his brother Jake Karlinsky (Sharna) of Winnipeg; and his sister Leah Trefler (Tzvi) of Toronto. His parents and oldest brother Hy predeceased him. Will is loved and will be remembered by a large extended family that includes sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Will and Minnie enjoyed a large number of close friendships that provided a mutually supportive network that has continued to this day. In addition to the practice of medicine, Wills life was full of many joyous gatherings with friends and family. The celebration of Jewish tradition was a central part of Wills life. Music, gardening, and the cottage at Sandy Hook also brought Will special pleasure. Funeral services were held on June 8 at the Rosh Pina Synagogue, where William was a longstanding member. Rabbi Rose and Rabbi Berkel officiated. Pallbearers were Barry Corrin, Daniel Corrin, Sarah Corrin, Adrian Challis, Aaron Challis and Bryan Magnusson. Honorary pallbearers were Abe Simkin, Morris Settler, Earl Braemer, Izzy Peltz, Tzvi Trefler, Aubie Jacob, and Morris Whiteman. Interment followed at the Rosh Pina Cemetery. The family thanks the skilled and caring staff of the Sharon Home where Will spent the last four years of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in William Karlinskys name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Manitoba Division, the Sharon Home, or to a charity of your choice. William was an extraordinary husband, father, friend and physician. He will be deeply missed. Even a long life ends too soon, But a good name endures forever
