Date of Passing: Jun 07, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER (SANDY) PENMAN P. Eng. Sandy died peacefully and surrounded by love on June 7, 2001. Sandy was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, graduated from the University of Edinburgh, served with the Royal Engineers from 1942 - 1947 and emigrated to Canada in 1951. He met the love of his life, Ruby, another Scottish emigre in Regina, and they settled in Winnipeg. Sandy enjoyed a healthy and happy life with Ruby and their three children: Rob (Laura), Anne (Bob) and Scott (Lorraine). He also leaves seven devoted grandchildren: Allison, Diana, Michael, Jill, Holly, Steven and Elisabeth. Sandy began his career in Winnipeg with the Greater Winnipeg Sanitary District. The last 21 years of his work life were spent as the Director of Waterworks for the City of Winnipeg. He was active in many professional associations and he retired in 1986. His monthly luncheons with former colleagues were a great source of pleasure for him. Among his many interests he enjoyed travels with Ruby, his family and golf. Pride in his Scottish heritage and his love for Scotland were part of Sandys life to the end. He passed this pride on to his children. We will remember Sandy for the incredible courage, humility and selflessness he displayed as he faced the cancer that took his life so quickly. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. A. Schroeder, Grace Cancer Care and Home Care Services. Memorial service at Westworth United Church, Monday June 11 at 11:00 a.m. (corner of Lanark Street and Grosvenor Avenue). Flowers graciously declined. Donations to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg R3J 3M7 appreciated. Life ends, love lives on THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
