NETTIE McKELVIE
Date of Passing: Jun 08, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNETTIE McKELVIE (nee MURRAY) Peacefully, at the Riverview Health Centre, on June 8, 2001, Nettie McKelvie passed away at the age of 79. She was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Jessie Murray. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Charles; daughters, Heather, Louise (Blair), Evelyn; sons, David (Karen) and Stuart (Susan) grandchildren, Regan, Colin, Blair, Amos, Aaron, Meaghan, Ian, and Jessica; brother Richard; as well as many relatives, friends and her cat Solomon. In her time she was a daughter, a sister, a sweetheart, a bride, a wife, a mother, an aunt and a grandmother, yet through it all, Nettie was always her own woman. Poised, stylish, and impeccable, artistic, passionate and never without a ready opinion, she could do nothing by half measure. With a full head of steam behind her, Nettie was a force of nature. Prominent in CGIT, the first member of Zonta International to represent the women of Winnipeg as a homemaker, a licensed realtor and a businesswoman who travelled extensively to introduce Diamond Yarns to western Canada, she made her professional mark, while fully supporting the career of her husband and raising their five children, no mean feat in anyones book. Nettie loved nothing better than to be "on the road" in search of a new adventure, unless it was teeing off in the early morning at her beloved St. Charles Golf Club, where she became the first female member of the Board. Long before Martha Stewart, Nettie was frighteningly competent at everything she set her hand and mind to, whether it was authoring a family cookbook, undertaking innumerable home improvements, uncovering antique treasures or organizing the legendary Christmas dinner parties so fondly remembered by her friends and family. A Cryptic Crossword fanatic, she was always a good friend who loved to laugh. For everyone touched by Netties life, there will always be too many words and too little time. The family wishes to thank the staff of Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. Special thanks to Lisa, Coralee, Nigel, Clarinda, Dr. Lynette Badenhorst and Dr. Marcelo Garcia for assuring Nettie comfort and dignity during her brief stay at Riverview. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Netties memory to the Alzhiemers Society of Manitoba or to Riverview Health Care. A memorial service was held Monday, June 11.
