VIOLET A. SMITKE (nee DOERN) Violet Smitke passed away peacefully at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, AB on Thursday, June 7, 2001 at the age of 83 years. Dear wife of the late Arnold Smitke; beloved mother of Ivan and his wife Sylvia of Edmonton, Linda Norminton and her husband John of Kitchener, ON, Ray and his wife Judy of Edmonton, and Barry and his wife Coleen of Winnipeg. Grandma will be missed by her five grandchildren, Tara, Jill, Steven, Stacey, and Scott; her stepgrandson Derek; and her two great-grandsons Ty and Caleb. Violet is survived by her sisters, Theresa and her husband Fred Knutt of Morris, Lily Schultz of Emerson, Sophie Kein of Morris; brother Walter Doern and his wife Geraldine of Winnipeg; and sisters-in-law Elsie Doern and Bella Doern, both of Winnipeg. The funeral service will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Friedensthal on Saturday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations in Violets memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, Friedensthal.
