JAMES (JIM) EDWARD PARSONS Peacefully, on Friday, June 8, 2001 at Victoria General Hospital, Jim Parsons, beloved father, brother, uncle and friend passed away at the age of 67 years with his daughter Linda at his side. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sisters, Dorothy Chasney, Leslie Culler (Carl), Wendy Vincent (Fred) brother Dennis Parsons; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family; along with special friends, Audrey Parsons, Ken and Meagan Taplin and family. Jim was predeceased by his wife Nan; mother Edith; father Frank and siblings, Frank, Ken, Bob, Arlene and Brian. Jim was born and raised in Winnipeg. He grew up and received his early education in West Kildonan where he was active in community sports and enjoyed winters with family and friends playing ice hockey on the backyard rink. In his early teens, Jim joined the Sea Cadets which led him to join the Navy at the age of 18 years. While in the navy Jim served as an able Seaman in the Korean War. He was later stationed in Halifax and then in Nanaimo, B.C. Following his naval career, Jim was employed by the B.C. Provincial Government in Victoria and Sidney. He was subsequently employed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Federal Government as a Financial Administrator. His employment took Jim and his family from B.C. to Burlington, ON and finally home to Winnipeg where he retired in 1987. In 1966, Jim married his love and friend Nan Cooper. As a result of this union they had their daughter Linda Jean. Jim remained a devoted husband and friend to Nan even after her sudden passing in October 1982. Jim will be missed yet fondly remembered by his family who looked at Jim as a mentor, and active community participant. Although a private person in his later years, Jim loved and enjoyed many family celebrations. His love of music and sports continued on. His warm heart fueled by the special gifts that his life offered him. This was especially true with the little ones in the family and neighbourhood. His bear hugs will be missed by all. Jim will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter and best friend who he devoted his life and love to - Linda Jean. My Father My Father is a man of strength, Who always stands by me; Through troubles and through turmoils Not with standing what they be. Not only in the good times, But in the bad times too; His compassion and unselfish love Have always seen me through. My Father is a man of trust, Adviser and a friend; Whos unselfish generosity Shows kindness without end. And so I mark another year Of thanks and gratitude; To emulate the years that passed With this brief platitude. As often I neglect to say How often I am glad; That God was good enough to me, To give me you as Dad! Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Tony Maunder officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Sheldon Permack, family physician Dr. W. Czarnecki, cardiologist, Dr. Kepron (respiratory). Special thanks to the nursing staff at Victoria General for their compassionate care. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
