Date of Passing: Jun 10, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGISLI SIGFUSSON Suddenly on Sunday, June 10, at the age of 66, we lost Gisli Julian (Siggi) Sigfusson, beloved husband of Joyce; father of Ardis (Wayne Martyniuk), Arla (Kevin Magalas), Blair (Karmen) and Afi to Brett Larissa and Troy Martyniuk and Danika Magalas. He also leaves to mourn his sister Oleen (Ray) brothers, Flovent (Rita) and Elmer; sister-in-law Joan (Siggi) in-laws Merle, Lloyd (Edna) and Evelyn; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by infant son Brendan; his mother and father Anna and Gisli; two brothers, Sigmar (Margaret) and Skapti; brothers-in-law Larus and Einar. Gisli was born in Oakview in 1934. He married Joyce in 1959 and they resided in Winnipeg. He was a carpenter by trade at which he worked until 1965 when he was employed by the City of Winnipeg, Water and Waste Department rising to the position of supervisor. Always a hard worker, Gisli felt any job worth doing was to be done properly. He officially retired in 1995, however, his strong work ethic continued in his retirement years spending countless hours helping his friends and family. Behind the scenes he was the backbone of Sigfusson Nursery Schools. He had many hobbies, including travelling, curling, baseball, hunting and snowmobiling, his true passion was woodworking. However, the majority of his time was spent taking care of his family. Friends young and old were drawn to Gislis warm personality and were greeted with the old familiar slap on the back. With his beautiful smile and infectious laugh he made everyone feel special. Our family is a circle of love, and Gisli was the centre always caring, giving, comforting and loving. He played endlessly and tirelessly with his adored grandchildren, inventing games and building "stuff" as they went along. They all agree with little Troy: "My Afi . . . my best friend." A celebration of Gislis life and love will be held at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mount Royal Road and Turner Avenue (off Ness Avenue) on Friday, June 15 at 2:00 p.m. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to "KidSport" in care of Sport Manitoba, 200 Main St., R3C 4M2. "Rest in peace darling, we miss you terribly already." NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200

My father died when I was a few months old. Siggy was my father while I grew up. He taught me how to use power tools. I do not have his his skills but every time I pick up a drill or saw (my kids will not let me have a chainsaw) I think of him. I love him. Aunty Jo, he is there for you. <3 - Posted by: Dawn (Niece) on: Dec 08, 2012
