MABLE ELIZABETH MILLS (nee DAVIES) It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mable Mills on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at the age of 81. Mable was the wife of Earl Mills; and extraordinary mother of Donald (and wife Kathy, of Mississauga, ON), Barbara (of Calgary, AB), Warren (of Winnipeg) and Cathy (and husband Mike Babb of Winnipeg) and sister to Reg Davies (and wife Nancy of Calgary). Grandma/Nanny will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Jennifer, husband Brent and Susan (Don and Kathy), Evan and Joanna (Barbara), Kelsey, Mac and Christopher (Warren) and David and Kelly (Cathy and Mike). Mable was born in Brandon in 1919 to Thomas and Kate Davies. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Bill. Mable trained at Brandon Mental Hospital as a psychiatric nurse. After graduation she nursed at Brandon Mental Hospital and Ponoka Psychiatric Hospital in Alberta. Her mothers illness brought her back to Brandon, a start to her many years of devotion and caring to her family. Married in 1944 to Earl, a Hydro lineman, they spent many happy years moving through rural Manitoba, with stops in Morden, Virden, Brandon and finally Winnipeg in 1953. One of Mable and Earls greatest pleasures was travel. Early years were spent camping with a young family throughout North America, which was followed by many trips to Europe where they travelled by train. They searched out Mables extended family and formed a special bond with them in Rhyl, Wales, birthplace of Mables father. Recent years saw them travel by ship through the Caribbean and Panama Canal. Mable, along with her husband Earl, gave many years of devoted service to others in the Crescentwood Community through her 50 years there. Her neighbours in the area knew of her kind and thoughtful concern for others throughout her life in the community. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her, but her tremendous lessons on living a good life will be long appreciated by all her family and many friends. Her family wish to thank all the staff at the Victoria Hospital, as well as the home care workers who made Mables final days so much more comfortable. Also, her family wishes to thank her doctor, Dr. Robyn Olson for her kindness and caring. A Service of Remembrance for Mable Mills, such a fine Wife, Mother, Friend and Neighbour, will take place on Saturday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Mable can be made to the Canadian Red Cross Society, P.O. Box 2441, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
