WALTER ALEXANDER MIECHKOTA With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and gigi on Thursday, June 15, 2001. Walters memory will be forever treasured by his wife of 48 years, Katherine; his sons, Ron (Lorelie) and Patrick; his grandchildren, Aaron, Brooke, Alexander; and great-grandchild Skye. Walters memory will also be cherished by his two sisters, Olga and Mary. Walter was born in the Ukraine on Tuesday, January 2, 1923 to Perry and Alexander Miechkota. He married Katherine Bugiera of Winnipeg in 1952 and worked most of his career for C.N.R. Walter was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Ukrainian Catholic Church until its closure. During his retirement years, Walter most enjoyed being with his family and friends and working outside in his yard. He continued to be as active as possible despite his struggle with Parkinsons Disease. Panakhyda will be sung Sunday, June 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Divine liturgy will be celebrated Monday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 455 Douglas Ave., North Kildonan, with Rev. Canon Fr. Walter Klimchuk officiating, assisted by Rev. Deacon Walter Knysh. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Instead of flowers, a donation in Walters memory may be directed to the Parkinsons Foundation of Canada, 204 - 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5.
