EARL DONALDSON On June 15, at West Park Manor, William E. Donaldson. Born in St. James, living there until moving to Charleswood in 1963. Earl was the second child of William and Edith, who had settled in St. James in 1909. Earl married Mae Bester on June 8, 1935. They enjoyed 58 years together. Long time members of the Sons of Scotland, they also enjoyed league bowling and won awards from the Charleswood Horticultural Society. Earl was predeceased by his father in 1945, his mother in 1980, Mae in 1994, his brother George "Elmer" (Olina), and sisters, Gladys (Doug), Edna (Bill, deceased) and Stella (Bob, deceased), and eldest daughter, Marlene (Paul). He is survived by his daughter Beverly Edmunds (Stan) in Quesnel, BC; son Bruce (Filomena) daughter Lori Donaldson (Randy Taylor) in Winnipeg, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Earl started work with his dad, building houses in St. James and NW River Heights, in the mid-1920s. After one year at Canada Bread, he became employee No. 6 at Macleods in 1933. In 1945, he was promoted to Buyer, Machinery Replacement Parts, a position that put him in touch with suppliers and retailers in the upper Midwest and eastern Canada. In the 1950s and 1960s, Dad ran Macleods swather canvas plant and later developed their line of saddler & harness goods. Earl retired in 1976, with 43 years service with Macleod Stedman Ltd. In his retirement, he enjoyed his "second crop" of grand-kids and woodworking. Special thanks to the staff of West Park Manor for exemplary service to Dad. A private interment at Brookside Cemetery will take place at 1:30 p.m., June 20, followed by a public memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrewss River Heights United Church, Oak Street at Kingsway, with the Rev.
