DAVID HARVEY Peacefully, on June 16, 2001, after a courageous struggle with multiple myeloma, God called David home. Left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss are his beloved wife and best friend, Debra; sons Chris and Steve (Ashleigh) mother Shelagh Coulthurst; brothers Ian (Joan) Harvey and Shane (Marilyn) Coulthurst; father-in-law Wilbert Thorvaldson; sister-in-law Heather (Bill) Friesen; nephew Trevor Coulthurst; nieces Kelly and Janet Friesen, and many dear friends and their families. Dave has gone to join those who left before him, his father John Harvey (1994), nephew Travis Coulthurst (1984), mother-in-law Ethel Thorvaldson (1985) and others who played an important role in his life. Dave was born on March 21, 1952, in London, ON. His father was in the armed services so David lived in many places in Canada and as far away as Germany. He settled in Winnipeg in 1970. Here he met Debra whom he married on August 5, 1972. He proudly welcomed the birth of his sons Christopher Allan on October 31, 1974 and Stephen Robert Coulthurst on April 14, 1979. Dave worked for Canada Post as a letter carrier for 28 years. Dave loved people and truly enjoyed his work. He made friends with co-workers and people along his routes. He was always eager to stop and lend a hand. Dave combined his love of teaching children with his joy in his job by doing presentations at schools whenever asked. Scouting was a major interest in Daves life starting in 1981 when he helped start 5th Southglen Beaver, Cubs and Scouts and continuing through to his time with the 100th Scouts. He was active in camps and jamborees and formed many friendships and had lots of FUN. He was proud to receive his certificate of merit in 1994. Dave was a member of St. Vital Legion for 26 years and Canada Post Heritage Club after 25 years of service. Dave had a great love of the outdoors and took his scouting skills wherever he went. He was always first to help the kids enjoy themselves at play and would teach them anything he thought they could do. Dave helped create wonderful memories of time spent at the Big Whiteshell Lake. He had a deep love for wildlife, loving eagles and beagles (his special companions) equally. Thank you to all the staff at CancerCare Manitoba. Special thanks to Dr. Rubinger, Dawn, Kathy, Joanne, Pat, and the loving staff on GD6. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Daves life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19 at the United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota St., with Rev. Linda Churchill officiating. If friends so desire, donations may be made either to CancerCare Manitoba at ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of your choice.
