GRACE (ANNIE) CABLE August 7, 1905 - June 16, 2001 The daughter of one of Transconas pioneer families, Mrs. Annie Grace Cable, went to her eternal rest on June 16, 2001 at the age of 95 years. She died peacefully at River East Personal Care Home, where she resided for the last year. Grace was born in North Transcona at the family Gunn farm and was the second-oldest of six daughters born to John William and Annie Gunn. Her paternal great-grandfather, John came with a group of Lord Selkirk Settlers to settle this area in 1812. Her father, John William and his wife settled in what would be Transcona in 1912. Grace was very proud of her family heritage. Grace married Tom Cable on June 21, 1924 and they were blessed with a daughter Bernice and a son Tom. Grace and Tom enjoyed 63 years of happiness together until his passing in 1987. Her life revolved around her family and her church. She was a life-long member of the Transcona Memorial United Church, was an active member of the original W.A. and U.C.W. ladies groups. She was always willing to bake or serve or help whenever she was needed; she sang in the church choir until last year and enjoyed not only the singing but all the many friendships she made in the choir. She sang every Sunday morning; she attended Friendship Club meetings and especially enjoyed bridge and crib games. Grace had bowled in Transcona leagues over the years and was an avid sports fan enjoying baseball, golf and other sports on TV. She was also a member of the Lord Selkirk ladies auxiliary and still made time for many hours knitting for church groups and enjoyed reading and playing on her organ. Grace lost her son Tommy in 1973 by way of a work related accident in Edmonton. She was also predeceased by her five sisters, Mrs. Jean Fedeluk, Mrs. Winnie Read, Mrs. Reita Walberg, Mrs. Louise Hopwood and Mrs. Beatrice Smith. Until the last year Grace was very energetic and participated in all church and family activities. Her quick wit was with her until the very end. She was truly "Amazing Grace". Left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughter Bernice and husband Norman Buss of Whitemouth; grandchildren, Bonnie (Gord) Odaisky of Beausejour, Sharon (Hugh) Stockes of Transcona, Marilyn (Lawrence) Toet of South Transcona, Larry Buss of Winnipeg; her daughter-in-law Bernice Cable of Edmonton, grandchildren, Rodney (Deanna), Gary (Melissa), Dennis (Sharon), Brian (Jeannette) and Bruce Cable all of Edmonton. There are also 16 great-grand-children; sister-in-law Florence Cable of Transcona, sister-in-law Bella (Ted) St. Marie in Welland ON and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care Grace received from the staff at River East Personal Care Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 19 at 1:30 p.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave W. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to Transcona Memorial United Church or a charity of their choice. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
