EGON PEDERSEN Egon Pederson, 80, beloved husband of Gerda, passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital on June 17, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Egon was born in Denmark, December 13, 1920 and after his schooling, spent many years as a commercial fisherman in Denmark. Egon came to Canada with his friend Ivan Kaufmann in March 1954 and Gerda and Karen Kaufmann and the children followed in July of that year. Egon and Gerda have resided in North Winnipeg ever since. Egon worked for Winnipeg Cold Storage and most of his working days he worked for Alpha Fan Company (later Joy Manufacturing) on Midland Street and Notre Dame Avenue. Egons great joy was his wife Gerda, his many nieces and nephews and of course his love of Manitobas great outdoors and his favourite pastime, fishing. Egon was a great fisherman and one of his favourite spots was Seven Sisters Falls where he caught lots of Winnipeg goldeye. His largest catch was a 12 lb. pickerel caught at Lockport. Egon loved children, and taught many children to fish and passed on his love of nature to them. Egon was very generous and gave to many local charities. Besides Gerda, his wife of 56 years, Egon is survived by his sister-in-law Sylvia of Denmark and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his Danish-Canadian family, Karen and Ivan Kaufmann, Peter, Hanna and John and all their families. We wish to thank Dr. Patel and the warm, caring nursing staff at Seven Oaks Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance on Aubrey Street, on Friday, June 22 at 1:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined; please make donations to Health Sciences Foundation, MS7 - 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9 or Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
