Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK WEYMARK John (Jack) Edward Weymark passed away June 17, 2001 with his family by his side. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren. His wife, Marjorie, predeceased him in 1992. Left with many wonderful memories of him are his son John and wife Diana of Nashville, TN, and his daughter Kathy and her husband George Buzunis of Winnipeg. He was a loving and devoted grandfather to Chris and Calla Buzunis. Jack is also survived by his sister Marion and husband Bill Dafoe of Toronto, ON; brother-in-law Wilson and wife Ida Stagg of Prince George, BC; and brother-in-law George Stagg of Calgary, AB; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was born in Shaunavon, SK on May 31, 1920. He had a varied and successful career which brought about moves to Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Regina, and Ottawa. He began his career in the hardware business, initially with the Moose Jaw Hardware, which he eventually purchased, and subsequently with the J.H. Ashdown Hardware Company, culminating in the position of General Sales Manager in Winnipeg. A change in careers took him to Saskatchewan again where he was Associate Deputy Minister of Education and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources. He then moved to Ottawa where he was appointed Chief of Operations, Employment Development Branch, Employment and Immigration Canada. Upon retirement in 1981, he and Marjorie headed back to Winnipeg to be with their grandchildren. Jack took great interest in sports, particularly hockey. He left home at 17 to play with the Moose Jaw Millers and during the Second World War, while in Europe, he was the playing coach of the Army headquarters hockey team. He remained involved in hockey for many years coaching and serving on the executive for the Moose Jaw Canucks. In later years he curled and remained active with the Deer Lodge curling group until his stroke in 1993. Jack believed in giving back to the community and was involved in many organizations. He was President of the Moose Jaw Rotary Club, Vice-President of the Saskatchewan Division of the Red Cross, a member of the Advisory Board of the Moose Jaw Providence Hospital, Director of the Second Canada Winter Games, among numerous other positions. He also belonged to the Wa Wa Shrine Temple, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Masonic Lodge, to name a few. He greatly enjoyed his years with the Shrine band. Cremation has taken place, according to Jacks wishes. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Wednesday, June 20 at 12:30 p.m. Private entombment to follow at the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grand Coteau Heritage & Cultural Centre, 440 Centre St./Box 966, Shaunavon, SK S0N 2M0.
