THOMAS BRUCE ROSS LLD, FIIC Peacefully at the Grace General Hospital, Winnipeg, in the early hours of June 20, 2001, in his 97th year. Predeceased by his loving wives Beryl (Armstrong) in 1972 and Edna (Cumming Scott) in 2001. Beloved father of Mary Connacher (Jim) and Jane Smith. Special grandfather to Nat (Carroll), David (Kelly), Jim (Pascale) and Ian Connacher, Jennifer Maguire (Joe) and Peter Smith. Great-grandfather to Mary Brooke, Ross, Ryan, Jack, Katie, Michelle and Jimmy Connacher. Bruce had a long and successful career in the insurance business including President of the Canadian Indemnity Company and Canadian Fire Insurance Company; Chairman of the Board, The Monarch Life Assurance Company; Honorary Fellow Insurance Institute of Canada; one of the founders and one of the original directors of the Insurance Bureau of Canada. He served as Chairman of the Board of the University of Winnipeg, which conferred upon him an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD). He was a longtime member of the Manitoba Club and St. Charles Country Club, serving as president of both organizations. He was a life-long member of Westminster United Church. A service of thanksgiving will take place Monday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster United Church, Westminster at Maryland. A reception will follow in the church.
