EVELYN BOYES (nee RHODES) On June 22, 2001, Evelyn Boyes passed away at the Grace Hospital after a battle with cancer. Evelyn was born in Winnipeg on April 16, 1919. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years W.D. (Doug) Boyes in September of 2000. She was also predeceased by her father Harry Rhodes and mother Ester (Aftin) Rhodes. She is survived by her sister Dorothy (Pat) Sqibb of Edmonton, AB; son Richard (Angela) Boyes of Winnipeg; daughter Marlene (Victor) Bayko of Toronto, ON; four granddaughters, Rhonda Boyes, Tamera (Mike) Juby, Deanne Bayko, Debra Boyes and three great-granddaughters. Evelyn started as a member of Jobs Daughters and worked her way up to Guardian of Bethel No. 1. In 1979 she started with the Daughters of the Nile, this eventually lead to her helping to start the Tambourine Band where she became a chartered member in 1988. Doug and Evelyn were members of Sturgeon Creek United Church. The family cannot list everyone who we owe special thanks to but would like to mention the staff at Grace General Hospital on 4 West, Dr. Alback and the staff at Assiniboine Clinic, Darlene Brooks, Joyce Verner, Maude Martin, Trudy Perkins, her bridge clubs and many friends at the Courts of St. James for their prayers. Evelyn will be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held on Monday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. There will be a private family burial service.
