Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMOLLIE SYLVIA SLUSKY (nee CORNE) On Thursday, June 21, 2001, Mollie Slusky passed away at the Victoria Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, Isaac and Bella; brothers, Dave and Norman; husband Louis; and daughter Ruth Lehmann. Dearly beloved mother of Hinda and David Gruber, Marcia and Martyn Adelberg, Irv Lehmann; and sister to Hy Corne. Adored grandmother and nanny of Ilene and Perry Pollet, Allan and Sheryl Lehmann, Michael and Andrea Gruber, Erin and Steve Kremer, Jackie Gruber, Becky, Robyn, Lara and Greg Adelberg. Great-grandmother of Max, Lexi, Eli and Aviva Pollet, Zachary and Josh Lehmann, and Rebecca, Sarah, Lauren and Abram Kremer. Born on April 19, 1907, in Winnipeg, Mollie graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1928 with her BA and a teaching certificate. She was a member of the Iota Alpha Pi sorority, and one of two people from the graduating class of 28 to attend their 70th reunion. To quote her yearbook, "eloquent eyes, roguish smile, golden-locks, happy-go-lucky Mollie". Mollie married Louis Slusky on December 25, 1934. She was an ardent Zionist, a past-president of the Hadassah Wizo council, and a lifelong member of the Lillian Freeman chapter. Mother taught in the Brooklands School Division prior to her marriage. In the 1950s she taught at the I.L. Peretz School, followed by the Herzlia Academy, and finally at Ramah Day School. She had an impact on her students, some of whom still made sure to stay in contact with their grade 5 teacher. One of her greatest pleasures was meeting up with former students who always had an affectionate greeting for her. We keep thinking, what can we say about this incredible woman? Its that she was a woman who we looked to when we wanted to know how to go forward with courage and strength. That was so fascinating to us - that as adults, you can still turn to somebody. We dont know if it was because shed been on the planet longer or was just wiser, but we always knew we could turn to our mother and she could still teach us how to live. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 24, at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue with internment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Her grandchildren were her pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews. Shiva will be observed at 201-155 Wellington Cres.
