During his 84 years, Dad touched the lives and warmed the hearts of many with his love, caring nature and respect for others. Marvin was born in Winnipegosis on March 4, 1917, where he received his education while growing up on the family farm in the district. During his earlier years, he commercial fished and freighted for 14 winters on Lake Winnipegosis, helped with fall harvests throughout southern Manitoba and worked locally as a mechanic. In 1949, Dad joined the Rural Municipality of Fork River and began a 31 year career in road construction and maintenance. The family moved to Dauphin in 1957. Dad retired from the Rural Municipality of Dauphin in 1980 after many years of devoted service. Marvin and Mary moved to Portage la Prairie in 1996 to be closer to immediate family. Dad always had a special affection for the beauty of wildlife and the outdoors. He was a long-standing and active member of the Dauphin Game and Fish Association and the Manitoba Wildlife Federation. He was also a dedicated member of the Fort Dauphin Museum where he spent countless volunteer hours. Dad loved to fish, hunt and garden but his greatest enjoyment was hearing the laughter of family and friends. Dad will always be remembered for the warmth and happiness he brought to family gatherings. Marvin was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Mary; brothers, Steve (Tina), Mike (Alice) and sister Ella Sass. Surviving are his loving wife Mary, companion of 61 years; sons, Dennis (Joan) of Portage la Prairie and Orest (Valerie) of Calgary; sisters, Ann Bobinski and Katie Roznowsky of Winnipegosis, Rose Snell and Nell Zwarich of Edmonton. Grandpa will always be lovingly remembered by Kristin (James Kostuchuck) of Portage la Prairie, Susan Zwarich of Winnipeg and Kara Zwarich of Calgary; and deeply missed by great-grand-daughter Jennifer; great-grandson Jacob; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Monday, June 25 at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Julie Baker officiating.
