GUSTAV BLUMHAGEN After a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, on Sunday, June 24, 2001 at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, Gustav Blumhagen, aged 72 years, beloved husband of Hildegard Blumhagen of St. Laurent. Born August 7, 1928 in Romania, he came to Canada in 1977 and had resided at St. Laurent since that time. In 1979 he founded Lakeside Decorating which he operated until his retirement in 1992. Surviving besides his wife Hildegard; two sons and one daughter, Roland (Margit) and their children, Melanie and Veronika of Germany, Dieter of Winnipeg, and Evi (Frank) Bruce and their children, Jennifer and Samantha of St. Laurent; two brothers, Samuel (Maria) and Heinrich (Inge) in Germany; one sister Berta (Emanuel) Schon in St. Laurent; numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 27 at the St. Laurent Roman Catholic Church, St. Laurent. Rev. Fr. E. Kamath will officiate, with interment to follow in the Churchyard Cemetery. Pallbearers will be son Dieter Blumhagen; son-in-law Frank Bruce; nephews, Edmund Schon, William Schon, Richard Schon, Paul Coutu; special friend Berthold Layher. Honorary pallbearers will be his son Roland Blumhagen; brothers, Samuel and Heinrich Blumhagen; brother-in-law Emanuel Schon; friends, Rudolph Jassmann and Ferdinand Buttau. Special thanks to son Roland for coming from Germany for one last visit this week. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall for their excellent care.
