MOLLY (MAMIE) SCHLEDEWITZ Peacefully with family at her side, Molly (Mamie) Schledewitz passed away to be with her Maker on Sunday, June 24, 2001 at the age of 87 years. She is survived by one brother Ted (Olivia) of North Bay, ON, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Molly, sixth of nine children of David and Maria Schledewitz, was born December 10, 1913 in Winnipeg. In younger years, she worked for Scotts, Quintons and later Perths Dry Cleaners, receiving awards of excellence for her careful work. After retirement, she volunteered as an English tutor to newly arrived immigrants. She loved to read and was an accomplished needleworker. Many family members can attest to her generosity. It was largely due to Aunt Mamie that her nieces and nephews know each other so well. Boxing Day Open House was a tradition, one that the family enjoyed so much, and continue to this day. Some of us have tried to bake her favourite holiday cookies, but not with nearly as much success! When her sister Dorothy passed away at an early age, leaving three young sons, it was Aunt Mamie who made a home for them. Although she never married, she was a natural caregiver and nurtured many in her family through sickness and good times alike. It was only after those in her care, brother Bob and nephew Jerry Isherwood, predeceased her, and, with her purpose gone, that she succumbed to sudden onset dementia. The final years were spent in Park Manor Personal Care Home where she received compassionate care in a safe environment. A lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, she shared her love of the Lord by teaching Sunday School, and would have been so pleased to know the choir will sing at her funeral. Her grandnephews will serve as pallbearers. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Ave., with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery. Pastor Richard Kruesel officiating. "We will miss you, Auntie Mamie, God grant you eternal peace" "Those who live in the Lord never see each other for the last time" - German Proverb In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the Memorial Fund of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
