WAYNE THOMAS SURGENOR April 1, 1942 - June 25, 2001 On Monday, June 25, 2001 at the Eriksdale Hospital, Wayne Surgenor, of Moosehorn, MB, passed away peacefully at the age of 59 years, after a long battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Wayne will be sadly missed by his loving wife and soul mate Shirley; his two children, Darren (Christine) of Starbuck, MB, and Dawn (Kim) Hepp of Thompson, offspring of his first marriage to Carol Surgenor of Ashern; stepchildren, Barry (Amanda) Lachuta, and Tammy (Charles) Dilling, both of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Jake, Damon, and Reanna; mother Audrey Surgenor of Eriksdale; sisters, Joy (John) Guttormson, Faye (Alvin) Goranson, both of Lundar, and Carol (Bill) Breckman of Winnipeg; plus many nieces and nephews and their families. Wayne was predeceased by his father, Tom Surgenor; a number of uncles and aunts; and three cousins. Wayne was born on April 1, 1942, in Neepawa, MB, and spent his childhood on the family farm in the MacRoss District west of Eriksdale. He went to high school in Ashern and afterwards worked at various jobs in the area, in Hamilton, ON, and Edmonton, AB. Wayne worked in construction and his own small landscaping business while he and his family lived in Edmonton. About 30 years ago, they moved back to Manitoba to farm west of Moosehorn. Since then, Wayne also worked as a carpenter on CFS Gypsumville, and fished commercially on Lake Manitoba. His last new venture was working with Shirley in management of the Ashern Shop Easy Store, which he greatly enjoyed. Wayne loved the outdoors, his family, his friends, and his independence. He was a very hard worker, right from young boyhood, and never shrunk from what he believed had to be done. Those who knew him well recognized the caring, sensitive person beneath the carefully-guarded crusty exterior. He had a keen sense of humour and loved a good "discussion". He faced many difficulties in his life, but he never asked for sympathy or help. His last battle was to stay as long as he could with Shirley, and he fought that one, as always, with every ounce of his strength and his will. He will be greatly missed. Rest now in peace, Wayne. We love you. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28 at the Eriksdale Recreation Centre. Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment of the cremains will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, contributions may be made in Waynes memory to the E.M. Crowe Hospital Guild, earmarked for Palliative Care Needs. Waynes family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Pat Harris, the doctors and staff of the Grace Hospital ICU and 3 North, Dr. Raath and Dr. Steyn, and the wonderfully caring staff of the Eriksdale Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to: ANDERSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME Ashern, Manitoba 1-204-768-3606.
